Art Leaves Shadows

About This Image
This is a photograph taken in the art room of the college where myself and my husband used to work as teachers for much of our lives. It is the same building where I went to school as a child. I see this image as a record of many related factors.
The closeness of a couple is depicted in an active way. Their position negates simplicity and stillness. This summarises the essential elements of fulfillment (and challenge!) which we experienced.
Furthermore, the overwhelming quality of light is positive and gentle. This is evident in the semi-transparency of objects. Many layers all connected and unified; always the suggestion that there is more. The aim of black and white is to signify the gentle clarity.
Thus, the combination of peacefulness with the suggestion of the partially unknown is the essential element of the photograph.
