April Snow on an Old Oak Tree
|
About This Image
An early April squall coated this old oak tree with snow. Photographed April 6, 2004 in a field of winter wheat near Avon, NY. The tree is probably 150-200 years old, and dates to the original division of the area's land into homesteads; the developer mandated that when the land was cleared of forest, at least one tree be left per acre to provide shade for both farmers and livestock. Most of the trees left were oaks, and many still survive in the area.
