About This Image

While out walking, I came across this mean looking bull. He was actually quite friendly though and let me pat him.

Thanks Mary, Alandra and Shirree for your comments and for steering (ha!) me in the right direction as to what this animal actually is. Its still a bull to me though even if it is an IT. I did make friends with it like I said so may have to visit again for some more pats. I still don't know how you can tell its a Steer from the front. I could be a young bull you know. Oh, who am I kidding. I know nothing about cattle.

haha, love the title, and he's a great looking specimen too! can even see the shiny fur/hide or whatever it's called.

Good shot of the Steer and I have found cattle curious too. When you approach the fence they all start wandering over to check you out!

No, I would stay on the other side of the fence too. I love cattle, but I wouldn't brave a bull. Would love to see more - bring on the Bulls I say!

Okay, now I know what a Steer is. But I assure you, there are some bulls up the road and I will take a photo to prove it. Those things are so huge that I may have to stay over the other side of the road to photograph them. I certainly won't be going up to the fence and patting those ones.

So,is it male or female or just somewhere in between? I'm confused about all these names. To me, if it has horns, its a bull, otherwise it's just a cow (unless its little and then its a calf).

Wow Lulu, i'm so proud of you - I thought you were afraid of cows. This bull looks like he may be part way through a sex change. They call them Steers. It's a lovely shot Lurene - very crisp. Cattle are really curious beasts, and this photo really captures that.
